Screening for heart transplantation and left ventricular assist system: Results from the ScrEEning for advanced Heart Failure treatment (SEE-HF) study
European Journal of Heart Failure Oct 04, 2017
Lund LH, et al. - This study investigated if screening can identify appropriate heart failure candidates for heart transplantation (HTx) and implantable left ventricular assist systems (LVAS). Findings reported that New York Heart Association (NYHA) class IIIÂIV heart failure and ejection fraction ≤40% was detected in a minority of patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and/or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), of those, more than one-quarter had an unrecognized need for HTx or LVAS. In addition, intervention based on screening were declined by many patients. Furthermore, discrepancies were observed between clinical and patient equipoise.
