Screening for atrial fibrillation in hospitalized geriatric patients
Heart Sep 15, 2017
Tavernier R, et al. — This study sought to determine if the number of atrial fibrillation (AF) cases detected among elderly, hospitalized patients would increase with the addition of daily, short-term rhythm strip recordings to routine care. Researchers found that these recordings detected AF in an additional 13% of these patients, increasing the incidence of AF in this group from 33% to 46%. These findings could impact treatment decisions for this population.
