Screening and eradication of Helicobacter pylori for gastric cancer prevention: The Taipei global consensus
Gut Oct 07, 2020
Liou JM, Malfertheiner P, Lee YC, et al. - Researchers sought to report on the global consensus meeting held to review current evidence and knowledge gaps and offer collaborative studies on population-wide screening and eradication of Helicobacter pylori for prevention of gastric cancer (GC). The evidence were reviewed and the statements were modified using the Delphi method by 28 experts from 11 countries, with consensus level predefined as ≥ 80% of agreement on each statement. They followed the Grading of Recommendation Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Per evidence gained, all individuals infected with H. pylori should be offered eradication therapy. In vulnerable individuals, test should be performed, and treatment should be provided if the test is positive. In populations at higher risk of GC, consideration should be given to mass screening and eradication of H. pylori.
