Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Mar 28, 2021
Talmor G, Nguyen B, Mir G, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for determining the effectiveness and safety of sclerotherapy for benign cystic lesions of the head and neck. This study draws on data from PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase. Studies of patients with benign head and neck cystic masses treated primarily with sclerotherapy were involved. In total, 474 cases of sclerotherapy were reviewed. Sclerotherapy appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for benign cystic lesions when malignancy is ruled out. The efficacy rates are similar to those of vascular malformation sclerotherapy. The incidence of serious complications is low, with only one report of airway edema in the literature.
