Satisfaction with high-resolution anoscopy for anal cancer screening among men who have sex with men: A cross-sectional survey in Abuja, Nigeria
BMC Cancer Feb 13, 2020
Nowak RG, Nnaji CH, Dauda W, et al. - Since men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV are at heightened risk for anal cancer, researchers sought to assess satisfaction with first-time anal cancer screening utilizing high resolution anoscopy (HRA) as a cross sectional survey among MSM attending a community-engaged clinic in Abuja, Nigeria. Of 355 MSM offered HRA, 13 were rejected, 342 were engaged, and 307 were included in these analyses and completed the self-administered satisfaction survey after HRA. Overall, HRA has been effective for those naïve to screen but going forward includes monitoring levels of distress with pain scales and normalizing dialog around anal cancer clinical symptoms and overall anal health to support future screening.
