SARS-CoV-2 vaccine uptake in a multi-ethnic UK healthcare workforce: A cross-sectional study
PLoS Medicine Nov 11, 2021
Martin CA, Marshall C, Patel P, et al. - In view of the possibility of variation in uptake of vaccination against COVID-19 in healthcare workers by ethnicity as well as other demographic, occupational, and health factors, researchers sought to establish these relationships in a large UK hospital workforce.
Using routinely collected data from a hospital vaccination program, researchers herein identified the staff members at a large, ethnically diverse hospital trust in the UK who had accepted the offer of vaccination against COVID-19.
The data were combined with data on the demographic and occupational characteristics of staff members and also with data on prior test results and work absences for COVID-19.
Per analysis, vaccination was accepted by 65% of staff, which suggests that there are many healthcare workers who have not accepted a vaccine against COVID-19.
There was significantly lower vaccine uptake in ethnic minority groups, younger age groups, females, pregnant healthcare workers, those living in more deprived areas, and those with a history of COVID-19.
