Sarcopenia is an independent unfavorable prognostic factor of non-small cell lung cancer after surgical resection: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Dec 02, 2018
Deng HY, et al. - For the first time, researchers conducted a meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the influence of sarcopenia on long-term survival of patients with surgically treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). they included a total of 6 cohort studies consisting of 1213 patients (422 patients with sarcopenia and 791 patients without) for analysis. Outcomes revealed a significantly worse prognosis for patients with sarcopenia than those without after surgical resection of NSCLC especially among those at early stage. For patients with surgically treated NSCLC, sarcopenia was identified to be an independent unfavorable prognostic factor.
