Sarcopenia is a predictive factor of poor quality of life and prognosis in patients after radical gastrectomy
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Mar 12, 2021
Zou HB, Yan XL, Dong WX, et al. - Often, generalized and progressive reduction of skeletal muscle mass and strength occurs in patients with gastric cancer, Researchers here examined how sarcopenia affects quality of life (QOL) and overall survival (OS). A total number of 135 patients underwent radical gastrectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between December 2015 and June 2017. Of these patients, 27 (20.00%) were diagnosed with sarcopenia. Findings suggest that in patients with gastric cancer, sarcopenia is predictive of poor QOL and prognosis.
