Salpingectomy at the time of cesarean delivery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 26, 2020
Roeckner JT, et al. - Researchers investigated operative time and surgical outcomes between salpingectomy vs standard tubal interruption at the time of cesarean delivery. They searched PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, Cochrane, and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception until July 2019 and included 11 studies; these studies involved 320,443 women who underwent either total salpingectomy or standard sterilization methods at the time of cesarean delivery. The analysis suggests a correlation of salpingectomy at the time of cesarean delivery with a small increase in operative time; however, it was not correlated with an enhanced rate of surgical complications. They advise considering this option for patients desiring sterilization during cesarean delivery.
