Safety of oral ivermectin during pregnancy: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nicolas P, Maia MF, Bassat Q, Kobylinski KC, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, appropriate databases and trial registry platforms on July 15, 2018, for RCTs and observational studies that reported adverse events in pregnant women were examined to assess the current evidence for serious and non-serious unfavorable events following ivermectin exposure in pregnant women. A total of 147 records, of which only five observational studies and one RCT were involved for quantitative analysis, 893 women with 899 pregnancy outcomes were incorporated. Researchers found that during pregnancy, there was inadequate evidence to conclude the safety profile of ivermectin. However, on preventing inadvertent treatment of pregnant women, treatment campaigns shall concentrate supplementary efforts.
