Safety of frequent blood sampling in research participants in an acute HIV infection cohort in Thailand
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Sep 01, 2017
Sacdalan C, et al. – This study was performed with the aim to describe baseline and longitudinal hemoglobin changes among participants with acute HIV infection (AHI). Observations suggested rarity of anemia after frequent phlebotomy in research participants with AHI, before and after antiretroviral therapy. As no substantial clinical risk was evident with the blood volume drawn from this study, increasing the volume of blood drawn for research purposes in acute HIV–infected research participants could be considered for future studies.
