Safety of anesthesia for children with mucopolysaccharidoses: A retrospective analysis of 54 patients
Paediatric Anaesthesia Apr 29, 2018
Scaravilli V, et al. - Researchers retrospectively assessed the safety of anesthesia for mucopolysaccharidoses patients as well as described anesthetic management of these patients at their institution. They also evaluated risk factors for complications and difficult intubation, by performing a generalized linear mixed model. Each patient underwent a median of 4 (1-6) procedures. At remote locations, 125 (54%) procedures were performed. For 100 (43%) procedures, general anesthesia was utilized. The risk for anesthesia-related complications was noted to be high among patients with mucopolysaccharidoses. Furthermore, remote location anesthesia was shown to be related to increased risk for complications. An association was also noted between older age and increased risk for difficult intubation.
