Safety and feasibility of a nonpledgeted suture technique for heart valve replacement
JAMA Mar 27, 2019
Chan PG, et al. - In this investigation, researchers evaluated the safety and feasibility of using nonpledgeted sutures for heart valve replacements. Parapvalvular leak (PVL) is one of the major complications of heart valve replacement. Findings revealed that large PVLs lead to heart failure and endocarditis progression. In less than 2% of cases, clinically significant PVL requiring reoperation occurs. Traditionally, it uses pledgeted, nonabsorbable sutures to secure prothetic valves.
