Safety and efficacy of the endoscopic delivery of capsule endoscopes in adult and pediatric patients: Multicenter Japanese study (AdvanCE-J study)
Digestive Endoscopy Sep 15, 2021
Ohmiya N, Oka S, Nakayama Y, et al. - Endoscopic delivery (ED) of capsule endoscopes was found to be safe and efficacious in adult and pediatric patients studied in this large-scale study.
This retrospective analysis involved 10,156 patients who had small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE), 3182 who had patency capsule (PC), and 1367 who had colon capsule endoscopy (CCE).
ED of SBCEs, PCs, and CCEs was performed in 546 (5.4%), 214 (6.7%), and 14 (1.0%) patients, respectively.
For 21.6% (167/774), only mild complications were evident.
Among patients aged <16 years and ≥16 years, successful ED of SBCE to the duodenum or jejunum was achieved in 91.8% and 90.7%, respectively, but with higher total enteroscopy rate in the first group.
In 84.1% and 28.6%, there occurred successful PC and CCE delivery to the duodenum.
