Safety and efficacy of platelet‐rich plasma vs carboxytherapy in the treatment of atrophic scars: A comparative clinical and histopathological study
Dermatologic Therapy Aug 04, 2020
Nassar SO, et al. - In this investigation involving 40 patients, researchers tested the effectiveness and safety of platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) vs carboxytherapy in the treatment of atrophic scars. Study participants were divided into two groups; group A including 20 patients received PRP injection and group B including 20 patients received CO2 injection. They received four sessions of treatment every 4 weeks and had 6 months of follow-up after the end of treatment. Histopathological examination exhibited significant expression of MMP‐1 in group B more than group A. The authors concluded that both methods were safe and efficient with limited side effects with better improvement in patients treated with carboxytherapy than those treated with PRP.
