Safety and efficacy of mesotherapy in the treatment of melasma: A review article
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Dec 05, 2021
Khalili M, Amiri R, Iranmanesh B, et al. - Various types of mesotherapy for treating melasma were reviewed, and findings indicate mesotherapy as a good alternative or adjunctive choice for certain patient groups.
Google Scholar, Medline, and PubMed were explored, and 33 articles assessing efficacy of mesotherapy in melasma were selected (28 articles about tranexamic acid, 4 articles about vitamin C, 2 articles about glutathione, and 2 articles about triamcinolone).
In the following patient groups, the utility of mesotherapy as a good alternative or adjunctive option is evident: patients who are refractory to first-line therapy, those with low compliance with everyday use of topical therapy, patients with contraindication to oral tranexamic acid therapy, or who desire short downtime and fast recovery period.
