Safety and efficacy of alternate-day corticosteroid treatment as adjunctive therapy for rheumatoid arthritis: A comparative study
Clinical Rheumatology Apr 01, 2018
Suda M, et al. - Experts assessed the safety and effectiveness of alternate-day (QOD) corticosteroid (CS) therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In order to investigate the rates of CS-related major AEs (infection, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular events and fragility fractures) within the first year of treatment, they divided the subjects into the daily (QD) and QOD CS therapy groups. As per the data, no significant difference between the groups in mean C-reactive protein (CRP) decreases over 1 month of CS therapy was seen. Compared to the does daily treatment, QOD CS treatment led to a lower infection rate and less CS dependence; both RA treatments had an equal effectiveness.
