Safety and effectiveness of minimally invasive scoliosis surgery for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A retrospective case series of 84 patients
European Spine Journal Oct 28, 2019
Yang JH, Chang DG, Suh SW, et al. - Researchers retrospectively assessed a prospective series of individuals (n = 84) with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) who were treated with minimally invasive scoliosis surgery (MISS) technique with a minimum follow-up more than 1 year. Data reported that the mean primary Cobb angle was corrected from 59.8° preoperatively to 18.6° postoperatively with a mean correction of 68.9%. The authors discovered that MISS used for AIS gives satisfactory correction in both planes and an acceptable perioperative complications rate, with a low estimated blood loss and a short length of stay. Given all the positive aspects, applying the MISS technique to AIS seems relevant and can become a valid alternative in daily use to the subsequent method.
