Rotavirus vaccines and health care utilization for diarrhea in US children, 2001 to 2015
The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal Aug 18, 2018
Getachew HB, et al. - Using claims data of US children under 5 years of age, researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate if diarrhea-associated health care utilization was reduced after implementing the rotavirus vaccine and evaluated direct vaccine effectiveness in US children. In US children under 5 years of age, implementation of rotavirus vaccines has substantially decreased diarrhea-associated health care utilization. They found that both rotavirus vaccines (Rotarix and RotaTeq) provided good and enduring protection against rotavirus hospitalizations through the fourth year of life.
