Roles of birth mode and infant gut microbiota in intergenerational transmission of overweight and obesity from mother to offspring
JAMA Pediatrics Mar 09, 2018
Tun HM, et al. - The purpose of this research was to examine the correlation between birth mode with microbiota in the infant gut. Experts also intended to determine if this mediated the link between maternal and child overweight. Data exhibited that the bacterial genera belonging to the Lachnospiraceae family were more abundant in infants of overweight mothers. Nonetheless, variation was noted in the participating genera of Lachnospiraceae between infants delivered vaginally and those delivered via cesarean birth. A novel sequential mediator pathway was demonstrated involving birth mode and Firmicutes species richness (particularly higher abundance of Lachnospiraceae) for the intergenerational transmission of overweight.
