Role of tranexamic acid in reducing intraoperative blood loss and postoperative edema and ecchymosis in primary elective rhinoplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery Jan 09, 2019
McGuire C, et al. - In patients undergoing primary rhinoplasty, researchers investigated whether tranexamic acid use is linked with decreased intraoperative blood loss and postoperative edema and ecchymosis. Outcomes of this systematic review and meta-analysis (5 studies comprising 332 patients) indicate tranexamic acid can significantly lessen intraoperative blood loss by a mean of −41.6 mL vs controls. In addition, tranexamic acid may also reduce postoperative edema and ecchymosis vs controls. Plastic should consider using tranexamic acid when performing rhinoplasties.
