Role of surgery in patients with early stage small-cell lung cancer
Cancer Management and Research Jul 31, 2019
Peng A, et al. - Researchers used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry to examine patients with early stage small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) to assess the survival outcomes were impacted by surgical treatments and to determine how lung cancer-specific survival (LCSS) is influenced by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The participants included 1,295 women and 1,158 men. Patients who underwent surgery and those who did not were compared for LCSS after adjusting, stratifying, or matching patients with early stage SCLC. A higher LCSS was observed in relation to surgery vs non-surgery. In this study, better survival was reported in relation to radiotherapy in patients with early stage SCLC.
