Clinical Infectious Diseases Dec 03, 2017
Gardiner BJ, et al. - Researchers planned this study to examine the effect of secondary prophylaxis (SP) on the risk of relapse in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) following an episode of cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease. Findings revealed no long-term protection against relapse with the use of SP following treatment of CMV disease, however, it did delay relapse while patients were receiving antivirals. Thereby suggesting the limited clinical utility of SP in the overall prevention of recurrent CMV disease.
