Role of postoperative radiotherapy in pT3N0 rectal cancer: A risk-stratification system based on population analyses
Cancer Medicine Mar 06, 2019
Huang YX, et al. - To discover the risk factors for cancer-specific survival (CSS) among pT3N0 rectal cancer in this review of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2010-2014), researchers assessed the data of 1021 patients. They recorded 86.31%, the overall 5-year CSS. Age, tumor differentiation, number of nodes resected, marital status, and radiotherapy were independent prognostic factors for CSS. They noted better CSS among low-risk patients as compared to high-risk patients. They found a double CSS among the high-risk patients (42.06% vs 91.26%) when radiotherapy was added to surgery but produced no impact among the low-risk patients (93.36% vs 96.38%).
