Role of local anaesthetic nerve block in endoscopic sinus surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Otolaryngology Jun 13, 2018
Shamil E, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review of existing evidence on the role of local anaesthetic nerve block (LAB) in patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Relatively low risk of morbidity was carried by sphenopalatine ganglion LAB with adrenalin but the quality of the surgical field in terms of bleeding could be improved by it. Nonetheless, due to the heterogeneity of methods, quality and size of the studies, limitations of the study were noted. Results demonstrated the requirement of well-conducted large RCTs using standardised inclusion criteria, balanced baseline characteristics of cohorts, and validated subjective and objective outcome measures.
