Role of inferior turbinate reduction in the quality of life of patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Jun 27, 2019
Soudry E, et al. - Via identifying a total of 571 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) who elected to undergo endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS), researchers ascertained if the addition of bilateral inferior turbinate reduction (BITR) to ESS was correlated with improved quality of life (QoL) when compared with ESS alone. According to findings, BITR in the setting of ESS for CRS was not linked to significant incremental improvement in overall QoL compared to ESS alone. However, BITR seems to offer a significant incremental improvement in nasal congestion/blockage symptoms vs ESS alone in polyp and primary surgery patients undergoing ESS.
