Role and prevalence of impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia in ambulance service attendances to people who have had a severe hypoglycaemic emergency: A mixed-methods study
BMJ Open May 01, 2018
Duncan EAS, et al. - Authors sought to compare the experiences of people influenced by diabetes-related hypoglycaemia and either did or did not require an emergency attendance. They also intended to estimate the prevalence of impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia in patients who were attended by an ambulance service due to a severe hypoglycaemic event. It was discovered that the prevalence of impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia among those who required an ambulance following a hypoglycaemic event appeared to be more than twice that was reported in the general cohort of people with diabetes. This was possibly attributed to the variation in the experiences of impaired awareness in people who required an ambulance following a severe hypoglycaemic event to those who did not.
