Robotic lateral oropharyngectomy following diagnostic tonsillectomy is oncologically safe in patients with high risk human papillomavirus related squamous cell cancer
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology May 31, 2018
Siddiq S, et al. - Experts evaluated the safety of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and lateral oropharyngectomy following a diagnostic tonsillectomy in patients with high-risk human papillomavirus-related squamous cell cancer (SCC). Findings suggested the TORS lateral oropharyngectomy alone to be an oncologically safe treatment when close or positive margins were identified on diagnostic tonsillectomy in HPV-positive SCC. No postoperative complications or long-term functional deficit were seen.
