Rivaroxaban or enoxaparin in nonmajor orthopedic surgery
New England Journal of Medicine May 19, 2020
Samama CM, Laporte S, Rosencher N, et al. - Among adult patients undergoing lower-limb nonmajor orthopedic surgery who were considered to be at risk for venous thromboembolism, researchers compared rivaroxaban vs enoxaparin as a prophylactic against the development of major venous thromboembolism in these patients. They randomized 3,604 participants to receive either rivaroxaban or enoxaparin in this international, parallel-group, randomized, double-blind, noninferiority trial. Findings revealed the superior effectiveness of rivaroxaban compared with enoxaparin in preventing venous thromboembolic events during a period of immobilization following nonmajor orthopedic surgery of the lower limbs.
