Risky sexual behavior and associated factors among patients with bipolar disorders in Ethiopia
BMC Psychiatry Nov 03, 2019
Obo CS, et al. - Researchers examined the prevalence of risky sexual behaviors (RSBs) and associated factors among patients with bipolar disorder via performing an institution-based cross-sectional study at the outpatient departments of Amanuel Mental Health Hospital, Addis Ababa. Participants included 424 people living with bipolar disorder, giving an overall response rate of 96%. The analysis revealed risky sexual behavior in almost half of bipolar patients. They observed an independent association of current manic episode and the consumption of alcohol with RSB. Findings suggested the necessity for mental health services focusing on the sexual behaviors of bipolar patients to decrease the burden of RSBs.
