Risks of road injuries in patients with bipolar disorder and associations with drug treatments: A population-based matched cohort study

Journal of Affective Disorders Sep 28, 2017

Chen VCH, et al. - The physicians examined the risk of road injury among individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) compared to individuals without BD using a nation-wide, population-based dataset. Furthermore, this population-based matched cohort study aimed to explore the putative moderating effects of prescription for lithium, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, and/or first- or second-generation antipsychotic agents on the association between BD and risk of road injury. They concluded that BD was correlated with an elevated risk of road injuries. Prescriptions of antidepressants, however, could help in mitigating the foregoing risk.
