Risks for upper respiratory infections in infants during their first months in day care included environmental and child-related factors
Acta Pediatrica Mar 23, 2018
Laursen RP, et al. - An inquiry was set up of the frequency and risk factors of respiratory infections, diarrhoea and absences in infants during their first months in day care. Findings illustrated that the risk of at least one upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) was increased by previous respiratory infections. However, it exhibited an inverse correlation with having a pet, being cared for by registered child minders compared to day care centres, birth weight and age at day care enrolment. Hence, the inference drawn was that infection risks were related to environmental factors and factors linked with the child.
