Risks and benefits of local anesthesia vs general anesthesia in tonsillectomy
American Journal of Otolaryngology Jun 01, 2018
Matovinovic F, et al. - Researchers evaluated the risks and benefits of performing tonsillectomies under local anaesthesia. This is a retrospective longitudinal cohort study analyzing postoperative bleeding rates as a primary outcome measure. Findings did not suggest the dependence of the incidence of postoperative bleeding on the type of anaesthesia. Tonsillectomy performed under local anaesthesia was seen to be a safe alternative to tonsillectomy under general anaesthesia. The former also demonstrated a reduction in cost and duration of surgery.
