Risk stratification in the investigation of pulmonary nodules in a high-risk cohort â PET/CT outperforms clinical risk prediction algorithms
Internal Medicine Journal Aug 30, 2017
Gibson G, et al. – This study investigated the combined predictive benefit of a model combined with modern PET/CT data. The intent was to improve decision making about biopsy before the treatment and to reduce costs. It was concluded that PET/CT improved the clinical prediction of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs). Its greatest use was found to be in proving benignity. High PET scores reported high false positive rates and did not aid in the clinical prediction. It was recommended that PET ought to be included early in the decision–making process to permit more effective biopsy strategies.
