Risk of venous thromboembolism in patients with keratinocyte carcinoma
JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery Dec 01, 2018
Rudy SF, et al. - Researchers performed this population-based analysis of data from 740,246 individuals in a nationwide insurance claims database, to assess patients with keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) for the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared to patients not diagnosed with cancer and patients diagnosed with common malignant neoplasms associated with VTE. Findings revealed that the risk of venous thromboembolism was not statistically significantly different between the cohort of patients with keratinocyte carcinoma and the cohort not previously diagnosed with cancer. Hence they do not recommend prophylactic anticoagulation administered perioperatively in patients with keratinocyte carcinoma and no other risk factors for venous thromboembolism.
