Risk of venous thromboembolism following hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome: A self-controlled case series study
Clinical Infectious Diseases Sep 13, 2017
Connolly-Andersen AM, et al. - In this work, researchers sought to determine hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) as a risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). They observed a markedly higher risk for VTE in the time period following HFRS onset. They recommended considering these findings and monitoring HFRS patients, and possibly other viral hemorrhagic fever patients, for early symptoms of VTE.
