Risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in an incident cohort of people with psoriatic arthritis: A population-based cohort study
Rheumatology Sep 12, 2018
Charlton R, et al. - Experts ascertained the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular diseases in PsA patients vs the general population and patients with psoriasis. Findings suggested a significantly higher development of T2D in an incident population of PsA vs a psoriasis alone or in a general population, while, in PsA and psoriasis, the increased risk of cardiovascular disease is similar. Compared to the general population, they noted significantly higher incidence of ischemic heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and the three cardiovascular outcomes combined in the PsA cohort. For any of the cardiovascular diseases measured, there was no difference in risk seen between the PsA and psoriasis cohorts.
