Risk of posterior circulation stroke in patients with cervical spondylosis: A nationwide, population-based study
Atherosclerosis Aug 23, 2018
Lin SY, et al. - Researchers determined the relationship between cervical spondylosis (CS) and ischemic stroke and all-cause mortality in a cohort of 27,990 patients aged ≥ 18 years with a first diagnosis of CS vs controls. Using Cox regression, hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals were estimated. The CS and non-CS cohorts were followed-up for an average duration of 6.13 and 6.07 years, respectively. They observed an increased risk of posterior circulation ischemic stroke in relation to CS in this population-based study. Findings also demonstrated an association of surgical posterior decompression with the highest risk of posterior ischemic stroke.
