Risk of pneumonia in patients with burn injury: A population-based cohort study
Clinical Epidemiology Sep 08, 2018
Chan CH, et al. - Using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan, researchers conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study to examine the association between burn injury and pneumonia. Using the propensity score, 2,893 subjects with burn injury, who were individually matched to 2,893 subjects in the comparison group, were identified and recruited. Results showed that exposure to burn injury was associated with a higher risk of pneumonia vs non-burn injury within 1 year, and burn injury was linked to significant increased risk in pneumonia, especially occurring within 30 days.
