Risk of perioperative coronary stent stenosis or occlusion in patients with previous percutaneous coronary intervention undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery May 25, 2020
Grieshaber P, Oswald I, Albert M, et al. - Researchers here performed an observational study prospectively including 107 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) (±concomitant procedures) with previous percutaneous coronary intervention from 4 centres in order to determine the relevance of perioperative stent stenosis or occlusion on postoperative outcomes up to 3 years postoperatively. Examination was performed of 265 bypass grafts and 189 coronary stents in the postoperative coronary angiography. Patency remained maintained in 97% of preoperatively patent stents. They observed rare occurrence of perioperative coronary stent stenosis. Observations support safety of leaving a patently stented coronary vessel without bypass grafting.
