Risk of obstructive coronary artery disease and major adverse cardiac events in patients with non-coronary atherosclerosis: Insights from the Veterans Affairs Clinical Assessment, Reporting, and Tracking (CART) Program
American Heart Journal Apr 19, 2019
Gutierrez JA, et al. - After percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), researchers investigated the risk of obstructive coronary artery disease (oCAD) related to non-coronary atherosclerosis, (cerebral or peripheral), and major adverse cardiac events. Within the Veterans Health Administration, patients with and without non-coronary atherosclerosis undergoing coronary angiography were assessed from October 2007 to August 2015, with respect to rates of the angiographic endpoint of oCAD. An increased burden of oCAD and adverse events post PCI were observed in relation to non-coronary atherosclerosis among patients undergoing coronary angiography.
