Risk of non-affective psychotic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder by refugee status in Sweden
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Dec 05, 2019
Duggal AK, et al. - In this register-based cohort study, researchers ascertained if the risk for the non-affective psychotic disorder (NAPD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) varies between quota refugees (resettled from refugee camps) and non-quota refugees (former asylum seekers). The sample consisted of 52,561 refugees in Sweden starting January 1, 1997, ending December 31, 2011. Findings revealed that there were more non-quota refugees (77.0%) compared with quota refugees (23.0%). According to findings, the risk of NAPD and PTSD differs for quota and non-quota refugees, indicating the possibility that different experiences of the migration process distinguish the risk of psychiatric disorders among refugees.
