Risk of malignant ovarian cancer based on ultrasonography findings in a large unselected population
JAMA Jan 10, 2019
Smith-Bindman R, et al. - In a large unselected population of women with ovarian masses, including simple cysts, researchers quantified ovarian cancer risk on the basis of ultrasonographic findings. Upon evaluating 72,093 women in this nested case-control study, the investigators noted a strong link between the ultrasonographic appearance of ovarian masses and a woman’s risk of ovarian cancer. No relation of simple cysts to an increased risk of ovarian cancer was noted. On the other hand, complex cysts or solid masses were found to be related to a remarkably increased risk of ovarian cancer.
