Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Aug 07, 2021
Bellinato F, Gisondi P, Girolomoni G, et al. - According to this systematic review and meta-analysis, in patients with psoriasis, the increased risk of lympho-hematological malignancies (LHM), particularly cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL), could be linked to systemic immunosuppressive therapies, comorbidities, and sustained immune activation, especially in the skin.
There were a total of 25 observational studies chosen, with a total of 2,501,652 participants.
Patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis had a significantly higher risk of LHM and lymphoma when compared with the general population.
A higher risk of Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemia was discovered.
Patients with psoriasis had a significantly increased risk of CTCL.
