Risk of intracranial hemorrhage associated with the use of antidepressants inhibiting serotonin reuptake: A systematic review
CNS Drugs | Mar 26, 2018
Douros A, et al. - The available epidemiologic evidence was systematically reviewed to assess the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) associated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and antidepressants inhibiting serotonin reuptake. Researchers noted that with antidepressants primarily inhibiting serotonin reuptake, such as SSRIs, the risk of ICH increased. An increased risk of ICH with strong inhibitors vs weak inhibitors of serotonin reuptake is also possible. They suggested preferring antidepressants only moderately or weakly inhibiting serotonin reuptake in high-risk patients.
