Risk of incident gout following kidney transplant recipients: A retrospective cohort study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Oct 24, 2018
Simbolon FR, et al. - Researchers assessed the relationship between kidney transplant recipients and the long-term risk of incident gout. They combined the Catastrophic Illness Certificate Database and the National Health Insurance Research Database between 1997 and 2010 for this age-matched and sex-matched retrospective cohort study. In kidney transplant recipients, an increase in the risk of incident gout was seen within 3 years after the transplantation. They noted individual's long-term risk of incident gout between kidney transplant recipients and the general population to be similar. A significant association between patients with kidney transplant and risk of incident gout was not seen at the >3 to 6 years and the >6 to 9 years follow-up.
