Risk of hip arthroplasty after open reduction internal fixation of a fracture of the acetabulum: A matched cohort study
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Mar 04, 2018
Henry PDG, et al. - Researchers aimed to estimate the proportion of operatively treated acetabular fracture patients that proceeded to total hip arthroplasty (THA), over what time period and they quantified the impact of patient, provider, and surgical factors on rates of total hip arthroplasty (THA). Compared with the matched controls, patients who underwent acetabulum fracture open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) had a 25 times higher prevalence of hip arthroplasty. It was also noted that in women, older patients, and patients who had ORIF performed by low-volume surgeons, the rate of THA was greater.
