Risk of gallstone-related complications in necrotizing pancreatitis patients treated with a step-up approach: The experience of 2 tertiary care centers
Surgery Dec 16, 2020
Maurer LR, Maatman TK, Luckhurst CM, et al. - In this investigation, researchers sought to analyze the risk of gallstone-related complications in necrotizing pancreatitis patients treated with a step-up approach. Between 2014 and 2019, necrotizing pancreatitis patients treated with a minimally invasive step-up approach who had interval cholecystectomy at 2 tertiary care centers were involved. About 20% of patients with necrotizing pancreatitis treated with a minimally invasive step-up approach developed complications linked to gallstones while waiting for cholecystectomy. In the vast majority of patients with necrotizing pancreatitis treated by a minimally invasive step-up approach, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is feasible and effective.
