Risk of first-time and recurrent depression in patients with psoriasis – A population-based cohort study
British Journal of Dermatology Sep 24, 2018
Egeberg A, et al. -Researchers assessed the incidence and risk of new and recurrent depression in patients with psoriasis aged ≥18 years (n= 247,755). Patients were followed up for a maximum of 20 years. Findings suggested an independent association of psoriasis with a risk of depression. Severe psoriasis patients aged 40-50 years were found to have the highest risk. The researchers also reported an association of concurrent inflammatory bowel disease, but not psoriatic arthritis, with an increased risk of depression, and the incidence of depression was markedly higher among patients with a history of depression.
