Risk of fetal loss following amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling in twin pregnancy: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Nov 11, 2020
Di Mascio D, Khalil A, Rizzo G, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the rate of fetal loss following amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS) in twin pregnancy. They searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane databases identifying 16 studies (3,419 twin pregnancies undergoing and 2,517 not undergoing an invasive procedure) for inclusion. Relative to prior works, researchers identified lower risk of fetal loss after amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS) in twin pregnancy. No significant difference was identified when comparing fetal loss before 24 weeks of gestation, or within 4 weeks after the procedure, between twin pregnancies undergoing and those not undergoing invasive prenatal testing. Considering these data, prenatal counseling for twin pregnancies undergoing invasive procedures can be done.
